What is Craniosacral Therapy ?
If your body were a house, an osteopath would support the frame, a massage therapist would support the walls and insulation, and a craniosacral therapist would support the wiring.
Through this work, the practitioner helps the client push the reset button so that the body can reprogram to its original blueprint of health. Using only a five gram touch (the weight of a coin), craniosacral therapy can help the blockages in the autonomic nervous system, how they relate to the muscles and skeletal structure, and brings cellular support to the internal organs.
What does it support ?
Craniosacral therapy is a great support for
- Headaches
- TMJ
- Joint Pain
- Prenatal and Postpartum relief and issues
- Concussions
- Arthritis
- Thyroid Problems
- Recovery from surgical procedures
- Back pain
However, craniosacral therapy also offers relief for stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma as well as other psychological obstacles which have become imprinted in the nervous system. Many people simply find this work relaxing when they need a recharge and rebalancing from the stress of everyday life.
What to expect during a session ?
During the first session, we take a little time to learn more about what the client is working with and would like to address. Depending on the client’s particular struggle, we might do some exercises to explore the nervous system before the practitioner makes physical contact.
The client then lies down on a massage table fully clothed as we explore the nervous system and sensation that arise through a series of light touches. While the experience varies for each individual, it’s common to feel movement inside the body, tingling, extreme temperature changes (most commonly warmth), and possibly a bit floaty. The majority of clients tend to feel very relaxed and sometimes a bit drowsy after a session.
